A Weekend Off

After my "interesting" Friday evening, I decided I was too freaked out to have to do anything yesterday or today, and I took the weekend off from doing any school work. I shall go back to work tomorrow, but I do admit it has been nice to actually feel like a normal person (ie., NOT a law school student) for a couple days.

I did come to a definite decision though. After a conversation with a classmate on Friday, I realized that I do NOT want to do law review. I was trying to hedge my bets and thinking I would continue attending the meetings for the next month, "just in case". But, the reality is I don't want to. I originally planned on doing it because I figured I would need it on my resume when I was competing for jobs up in the bay area against people who had graduated from Stanford, Santa Clara, Boalt Hall, etc. But now that we are definitely staying here and I will have both the DA and US Attorney's office internships on my resume, I don't think I need law review. Not that I don't think it is a great honor and all that crap, but really, I need a vacation! It's bad enough that law school has diminished my traveling, but I'm not letting it take my sanity too. I really just need one month before my final year starts when I can not stress. Sure, I'll be working full time with the DA, but I can come home and NOT read, NOT study, NOT research. That is what I want. If that makes me lazy, so be it. I just need to feel like I'm going to have some time to recharge enough to make it through the rest of the year. (Now where could I go to have a fun long weekend sometime before school starts???)

So yeah, that's about it for now. I believe I shall go find my cat and take a nap......

3rd Year Schedule

I've been trying to figure out what my schedule will be for this summer and next year. I think I finally have it decided. This summer I will take Professional Responsibility, Moot Court and one 2 unit elective. (Yes, this will make for a crazy 5 weeks, but I learned last summer that the summer school electives are very laid back and not as rigorous as those classes offered during the school year.) I will also try to line up some kind of clinical units (need 144 hours worth) to do over the summer, though probably not at the same time as summer school.

In the fall, I will have to take the 3 required, year-long classes (Remedies, Wills & Trusts, and Evidence). I will then have to have a one semester long class in Community Property and a one semester long elective. If I take all 5 of those in the fall, I can "relax" a bit with only 3 classes my final semester. Of course, this is also assuming I complete my law review article (which is currently on hold in its outline status) so that I can use the 3 units granted for that instead of having to take the advanced research and writing class. I am still planning on doing so, but honestly, taking 5 classes and having a husband, kids and a house to take care of does tend to fill up your time. (I give big kudos to those in my same situation who were able to finish their comment last semester!) If need be, I will do it over the summer at the latest.

So, it looks to be a very busy summer. Of course, that will make my final year a bit more enjoyable. In addition, if I end up finding out that I like the work I do for my clinical hours and they like me, it will also be possible to continue working there part time once school starts in the fall.

After our costume party the other night, I made a deal with hubby, who had dressed as a cowboy, complete with fake mustache. I will never color my hair black if he never grows a mustache. We were both only too happy to agree!

I did my first cite checking assignment for law review today. I had anticipated it taking me several hours, as I have NO experience doing that, and am not familiar with the cite forms. However, the author had done a great job in organizing her materials, so it really went pretty fast and I was done in an hour. I think (assuming the others are at least semi-organized) it will go even faster next time, since I feel like I at least know (at little) about what I'm doing.

Nice to have the evening off from class tonight. Just planning on doing some reading and passing out candy. Though, I may have to revive the costume for one last time....
