The Gratuitous Promise

The Gratuitous Promise: not worth anything, but I'm making it anyway!.........My thoughts as a stay-at-home mom turned law student, who just passed the California bar exam.

Overheard in Wills & Trusts

Professor: "All law school and no TV makes Jack and Jill dull people."

Ok, there you have it. I'm allowed to watch TV to better myself......

--------------------------------

Then, in discussing Marvin actions, and how homosexual couples can use those to get around intestacy rules:

Professor: "So they can use this to get in the back door......uh.....I mean, they can use this to get the person's assets.....um......I can't even say any of this!"

Overheard in Remedies

In discussing the popularity of replacement cost insurance, because sometimes the fair market value isn't enough to replace the item that would lost.....

Professor: "Where would you go to buy a 5-6 year old sofa? And when you get there, how much would you want it?"

Overheard in Wills & Trusts

In discussing how the law should respond to changes in the population:

Professor: "......gay relationships.....there's a lot of untapped things out there......."

And then, not kidding, we read the case of "Estate of Swallow". (Note: this case was NOT about a gay couple!)

Overheard in Remedies

Professor: Now that we charge so much to go to school here, I've upgraded my vocabulary. A couple years ago I stopped using the word "model". Now I only use "paradigm".

Overheard in Criminal Procedure

Crim. Pro. Professor: Don't you ever just wake up on Tuesday mornings and say, "Yippee. I have Criminal Procedure tonight!"?
........scoffing laughter by students......
Crim. Pro. student: At least it is better than Bus. Orgs.!
----------------------------------------------------------
No, that student wasn't me!

Property grades can't be posted online apparently, so we will just get our exams back on Monday. I can live with that (considering most other professors take a month to get anything back to us).

I got caught up on my reading this morning, so now I need to concentrate on 3 things: getting ready for the March 30 Bus. Org. final, preparing for my Aprill 11 trial, and getting my outlines together for my 3 other classes. Gonna be busy!
---------------------------------------------------------------
90 Minutes into class:
Crim. Pro. Professor: Sometimes I like being able to talk like this and get all philosophical. ButI know you’re thinking, “Philosophical? Bullshit! I just want to get out early!”

Overheard in Tax Class

In trying to convince us to hand off any case involving depreciation when we are in practice:

Tax Professor: "It's like in elementary school when they tell you "Don't do drugs." I'm telling you, "Don't do depreciation." Now, I know, some of you are going to want to get into some experimentation......"
